The dark water
The upper reachers of the Thames are also know as the Isis which can be translated as the dark water. Filthy, opaque and stinking of rotten eggs: this was the River Thames in the 50's. Declared biologically dead thanks to its soaring pollution levels. These pictures are from the top of the Thames where wild pockets remain and Otters and water voles live. The Thames as a whole is a good news story, now clean and heathy.
